SUMMER FESTIVAL
JUTTA ASSMANN, BEATE BRINKMANN,
UTE KOLAR, YU HIRAISHI, GIOVANNI SICURO a. o.
Exhibition period 15 June to 31 July 2010
The bright, summery creations by the artists of Galerie Slavik bring colour and joie de vivre to the gallery’s current "Summer Festival" exhibition.
The works by Jutta Assmann manifest a fascinating interplay of widely different forms with various materials such as gold, silver and synthetic materials. A brooch made of wafer-thin, light yellow and almost transparent platelets looks like a cluster of numerous delicate blossoms.
Beate Brinkmann's "endless" necklaces and bracelets made of silver and gold-plated silver impress the beholder with their clear forms - miniature sculptures to wear, which change with every movement and constantly take on new forms. Endlessly turned silver wire evolves into a strikingly individual bracelet adorning the wearer’s forearm.
The works by Ute Kolar, by contrast, are frozen movement. The brooch called "Wheatfield", silver, whitened, is reminiscent of a gust of wind in a field of ripe wheat. Her silver ring of flowers is a wearable miniature sculpture that captures the essence of a wildflower meadow.
The Japanese sculptor Yu Hiraishi takes her sculptures as the point of departure for colourful jewellery creations that are full of life. Her flashing red neck jewellery - brass covered with four layers of Japanese lacquer - is a geometric structure that embraces the neck and shoulders like a collar. Objects in yellow and red reduced to narrow lines are to be worn pinned on as brooches.
The preferred technique of the Italian jewellery artist Giovanni Sicuro is enamel, which he used, for instance, to create the captivating blue brooch in the form of a house, a piece that catches the eye with its clear and simple form. For his long white chain, he used gold links to connect elements of polished Carrara marble with enamelled spacer pieces.
We look forward to welcoming you to our gallery and showing you around our multi-faceted world of festival jewellery creations.
