The Gallerist Renate Slavik as member of the jury to the Austrian Jewellery State Award and the First European Jewellery Award.

The members of the jury to the First European Jewellery Award belong to an international committee. Beside Renate Slavik the architect Hans Hollein, the head of department "Modeklasse" of the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, Paolo Piva, the director of the jewellery museum Pforzheim, Fritz Falk, the head of department "Metallabteilung" of the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, Elisabeth Schmuttermeier as well as the jewellery artist Peter Skubic took part as members of the jury.

The Austrian Jewellery State Award took place for the fourth time whereas it was an opening for the European Jewellery Award.

The interest in this competition was extremely high - participants of 18 european countries and over 100 Austrians competed with each other.

The participants were invited to send in sketches and models of jewellery under the topic "The New Age" and were judged by the criteria of creativity, originality and future impulses for the jewellery art.

After the sketches had been selected the awarded ones were sent back to the artists with the request to manufacture them.

Closing date for entries is the 1 st September 2000.

The public presentation of the jewellery and the festivity of the award will take place on thursday, 19 th October 2000 in the auditorium of the Viennese Town Hall. A catalogue with the selected jewellery will be published.
