Wolfgang Rahs

Vienna’s Gallery Slavik is showing an extensive exhibition of works by the Austrian artist, Wolfgang Rahs, to mark his fiftieth birthday. The jewellery exhibits relate to the theme of ‘enlightenment’. The works are presented under the exhibition title “The Golden Gate” as an invitation to creative discussion.
Art books, philosophical writings, fairy tales and psalms become the formal and structural background of the colliers, earrings and brooches, and the pedestals in the showcases. Jewellery becomes a bookmark as Wolfgang Rahs works striking passages from texts as silhouettes into golden earrings. In this way the words are both worn and conjectured.
